How to judge whether the connector is good or bad?

With the development of the connector industry to today's level, you can start from many aspects to understand the quality of the connector. For example, among the three basic properties of the connector, the electrical performance belongs to the internal performance and the core of function play, while the mechanical performance and environmental performance can belong to the external performance. However, the external performance is the guarantee of the quality of the connector. Without the support and guarantee of the external performance, it can not play its core function more effectively. The two complement each other. They supplement each other and jointly complete the operation work. They play a very important role in jointly completing the work tasks. The efficiency is the highest when they are effectively combined from the internal and external performance. If the three performances are lack of any guarantee, the performance of the connector will be limited, or even the opposite destructive effect.
In fact, judging the quality of connectors from several aspects is also a little simple. If you want to judge the quality of a product, you should understand it from many aspects.
(1) Manufacturer's test connector
Firstly, we understand the following basic appearance standards for good connectors. Connectors are composed of terminal rubber shell and needle base, which are divided into pre assembly and post assembly inspection:
Inspection before assembly: lack of material, burr, shrinkage, deformation, color difference, dirt, hole plugging, indentation, uneven / deformation of barrier plate, warping of clamping point, subsidence / deviation or fracture, wrong pin identification / no pin identification
Inspection after assembly: check whether there is a gap between the copper / iron shell and the rubber shell, the iron / copper shell is deformed, the buckle is not pressed in place / biased, the rubber shell is crushed, the left and right hooks are not installed in place (the exposed dimensions of the hooks at both ends are inconsistent), press the hooks several times by hand to confirm whether the left and right hooks are normal and elastic
The above are the troubleshooting factors of defective products when the connector manufacturer detects products to remove the defective products. These are the test steps in the manufacturer's product inspection.
(2) Personal detection connector
Others look OK on the surface, but they are bad inside. The master can directly get the quality of the connector by touching, smelling and seeing.
1. Touch and feel whether the connector production is meticulous. If there is an obvious roughness on the surface and the service life is not guaranteed, there is a huge difference between itself and high-quality products in terms of safety.
2. Smell, some manufacturers will add fragrance to cover up the taste of inferior materials, so they need to consider more carefully when they encounter fragrant products.
3. Look, if you see that the connector and socket are seriously oxidized on the metal surface, which is basically a gray color with close degree, these are all quality problems, which will affect the welding quality. Generally, unused connectors will not be oxidized or damaged in appearance.
The specific test items of connector reliability are as follows:
Plugging force test
Reference standard: eia-364-13
Purpose: to verify whether the plug-in force of the connector meets the requirements of product specifications
Principle: fully insert or pull out the connector at the specified rate, and record the corresponding force value
Durability test
Reference standard: eia-364-09
Objective: To evaluate the impact of repeated plugging on the connector and simulate the plugging condition of the connector in actual use
Principle: continuously plug and unplug the connector at the specified rate until the specified number of times is reached.
Insulation resistance test
Reference standard: eia-364-21
Purpose: to verify whether the insulation performance of the connector meets the requirements of circuit design or whether its resistance value meets the provisions of relevant technical conditions when it is subjected to environmental stress such as high temperature and humidity.
Principle: apply voltage to the insulating part of the connector to generate leakage current on the surface or inside of the insulating part.
Withstand voltage test
Reference standard: eia-364-20
Purpose: to verify whether the connector can work safely under the rated voltage and withstand the over potential, so as to evaluate whether the insulation material or insulation gap of the connector is appropriate. Principle: apply the specified voltage between the connector contact and the contact, and between the contact and the shell for the specified time, and observe whether the sample has breakdown or discharge.
Contact resistance test
Reference standard: eia-364-06 / eia-364-23
Purpose: to verify the resistance value generated when the current flows through the contact surface of the contact. Principle: the resistance value is obtained by applying the specified current to the connector and measuring the voltage drop at both ends of the connector
Vibration test
Reference standard: eia-364-28
Objective: to verify the effect of vibration on the performance of electrical connector and its components
Vibration type: random vibration, sinusoidal vibration
Mechanical impact test
Reference standard: eia-364-27
Purpose: to verify the impact resistance of connector and its components or to evaluate whether its structure is firm
Test waveform: half sine wave, square wave
Thermal Shock Test
Reference standard: eia-364-32
Objective: To evaluate the effect of connector on its functional quality under rapid large temperature difference
Combined cycle test of temperature and humidity
Reference standard: eia-364-31
Objective: To evaluate the effect of connectors stored in high temperature and high humidity environment on the performance of connectors
hot test
Reference standard: eia-364-17
Objective: To evaluate whether the performance of terminals and insulators changes after the connector is exposed to high temperature environment for a specified time
Salt spray test
Reference standard: eia-364-26
Objective: To evaluate the salt spray corrosion resistance of connectors, terminals and coatings
Mixed gas corrosion test
Reference standard: eia-364-65
Objective: To evaluate the corrosion resistance of connector exposed to different concentrations of mixed gas and its effect on its performance
Wire swing test
Reference standard: eia-364-41
